Seimone Augustus of the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA holding the 2011 WNBA Championship Trophy AND the 2011 Finals Most Valuable Player trophy (which she rightly deserved!).
Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream setting an WNBA Finals record with 38 points in Game 2 against the Minnesota Lynx. Minnesota won the WNBA Championship in 3 games straight however.
I always loved Angel McCoughtry when she was with Louisville and now I love her even more in the WNBA. I think she has become my favorite player, especially with the way she has battled to turn the Atlanta Dream season around. She scored 27 points yesterday in a win against the favored Indiana Fever to put the Dream one game away from the WNBA Finals against the Minnesota Lynx and Maya Moore.
(And at the start of the WNBA season, I was picking the Fever as my team to root for, but now because of Angel, I have switched allegiances!!)
Maya Moore, battling here against Marie Ferdinand-Harris, would not be denied this season in the WNBA, leading the Minnesota Lynx to their first winning season in 7 years and their first even WNBA Finals appearance, starting soon against the winner of the Atlanta Dream-Indiana Fever semifinals series.
Cappie Pondexter of the New York Liberty. (I don’t even really care that this is last year’s schedule.)
Although the Tulsa Shock are having a terrible season, I’m happy that not only did Andrea Riley (number 10 in the photo), a great point guard from Oklahoma State, make it into the WNBA, but that she gets to play for a team in her native Oklahoma.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say we might be looking at a Courtney Vandersloot fan. Just a hunch.
Maya Moore and Candice Wiggins of the Minnesota Lynx were guests at a recent Minnesota Twins baseball game.
I can’t tell you exactly why, but I like Maya Moore a lot more now she’s in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx than when she was at UConn.
lastly, for today on the sports front, Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream, fresh off that amazing play in the WNBA All-Star game has led her team to a 5-1 record in the last six games (after a 3-9 start to the season), earning her Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the second week running. She has led her team in scoring in every one of those six games and has a season 19.8 points per game average.
Long-time followers of this tumblr know the love I have for Angel McCoughtry.
She had THE PLAY OF THE GAME in yesterday’s WNBA All-Star Game. She tosses the basketball off the top of the backboard TO HERSELF and shoots it in! LOL I love her so much!
The Indiana Fever’s Erin Phillips was also a Silver Medalist for Australia’s basketball team in the 2008 Olympics.
The other good part of watching the Fever game last night was point guard Erin Phillips. I was showering my point guard love on her. :)
