I’m so proud that I got through ALL my stack of comics this long, holiday weekend including finally the Birds of Prey, Huntress-Catman “date” issue. Great stuff.
Huntress. Catman. Art by Chris Samnee. Commentary by huntresstheitalianmafiaprincess.
Me having a tumblr account to view it with. Priceless.
Birds of Prey #11 came out today and I’ve been eagerly anticipating this issue , it made me think about a piece of art I own. I commissioned Chris Samnee to do a Huntress and Catman piece two or three years ago based off the Birds of Prey: Dead of Winter story. So, I emailed him ALL of the Helena and Thomas scenes from those issues; gave him no background to the characters or the story, and made very few demands of him (I don’t believe in stifling artist creativity with a bunch of request or do’s and don’ts). My only request was that they fight, and don’t forget the snow. This is the outcome.
Chris had very limited knowledge of The Huntress and none of Catman. He’d only drawn Huntress twice before for his blog (I’m lucky to own both of those. One, won in a contest. The other, because he enjoyed drawing her the first time, he decided to give it another go and he allowed me to purchase it.) But the level of intimacy that he captured with his craft is impossible not to see.
I’ve stared long and hard at those scenes Nicola Scott drew that I emailed him that day just trying to imagine what he might have seen because he gave me the fighting and the snow, but there’s also this quiet and private atmosphere that he created that makes me feel a little intrusive and one I didn’t even think to ask for, but something he felt with the stroke of his pen.
Receiving this reinforced my belief of not putting too many restrictions on artist. Yes, it’s your money, but there’s a reason why you chose to commission them, and that’s because there’s something in their work that you believe in and moves you. If you’ve never thought about having an artist sketch or commission your favorite character or a favorite moment, give it some thought. Just be careful, because it might become an addictive habit!
First up from Steve Howard, the cover to an issue of the DC2 Fanfic site’s “Secret Society of Supervillains”, an AWESOME Catman, who seems to always look more awesome the more naked he gets and the more bloody he gets!
Birds of Prey #106
I’d watch this porno.
Catman/Huntress. Yes indeed.
I’d so do them both. LOL
this one owned by HuntressTheItalianMafiaPrincess is a commision done for her by Chris Samnee. It has such a great atmosphere.
Last set of cards I’ll post, with a LITTLE gratuitous flesh this time. But of course, it belongs to that stud CATMAN! (See Meme post about “Character I’d go gay for” :) )
Donna. Donna. What are you doing to Cassie!? “Miss me?”
And lastly, Kate Spencer fans. Choose your own adventure here. Does Kate (note the little hand on the ledge):
a) help up the defeated felon to safety?
b) step on his fingers?
I know which one I’m going with!

Day 16: Character you would go gay for
Tell my wife it’s all Gail Simone’s fault, wouldya?
But I would go SOOOOOO gay for Catman.
*please treat me rough, Thomas*
WHAT? *look* *look* Who said that?? *whistles innocently*
