Spandex and Sports Bras

This is my page dedicated to the women of the comic books and the sports fields that I admire. Pictures, thoughts, comments, etc. Inspired by all the great comic book tumblrs I've found!

It is somewhat serendipitous that I found the tumblr boobsdontworkthatway the same week that Gene Colan passed away. The reason being, for better or worse, the thing I remember most about Gene Colan’s art (along with Howard the Duck) is the Black Widow’s breasts.
Gene Colan was the first person, with his work on the Black Widow, both in Amazing Adventures and Daredevil, who actually drew breasts that looked like real breasts and moved like real breasts when she was in action and gravity actually worked on them. And pretty sure she was the first character drawn such that you could tell she didn’t really like wearing a bra under her catsuit.
Gene also seemed to know that the laws of physics work on long, loose flowing hair as well. He always drew very realistic, well-proportioned strong women that were super sexy without being cheesecakey.
Really, I don’t think people know or realize how he changed the game in the 1970s when it came to drawing female superheroes. Of course, most who followed didn’t really learn the lesson. But hey, it was out there!
Gonna miss you, Gene!
