And really, it infuriates me from almost the first sentence to the last.
The one thing I have to call the most BULLSHIT on is that it was a commercial necessity to make Batgirl an “iconic” book.
I yanked the sale figures page from the latest Previews magazine (which admittedly deals with Diamond Comic Distributors sales figures, but I think they are DC’s exclusive distributor?)…
The Stephanie Brown Batgirl #20 book outsold the following books:
Avengers Academy
Legion of Super Heroes (getting a book)
Heroes for Hire
Supergirl (getting a book)
Iron Man 2.0
Titans (Deathstroke getting a solo book)
Secret Six
The CURRENT Birds of Prey outsold all THOSE books (and Batgirl) and also:
Incredible Hulks
X-23
Deadpool (both issues)
Superman/Batman
Batman Beyond
Teen Titans
X-Factor
Wolverine:The Best There Is
And I’ve been following the sales figures of these books because they’re important to me. These aren’t anomalies. They consistently sell this well.
You know, use all the excuses you want, but don’t try to use the “commercial viability” one.
wondering about this.
