Australian Jessica Watson in 2010, when, at the age of 16, she became the youngest woman to successfully sail solo around the world. She did it in 220 days.
Dutch teen, Laura Dekker, will also be 16 by the time she completes her solo sailing trip around the world this January. She took a longer time, 508 days, as she rested up in ports along the way, and did self-study of her schoolwork.
The Guinness Book of World Records has now removed all records having to do with “Youngest this” and “Youngest that” to discourage unsafe attempts by children seeking world records.
