In contrast to the last image, here are the women of DC.
Let’s assume for a minute that a superhero is much like an athlete or at least, very often engages in athletic behavior. Saving the universe, punching out a super villain, rescuing a cat from a tree. Lots of running, flying, hitting, etc.
So why on Earth (and that can be Earth-1, Earth-2, Earth-whatever), does every female superhero wear her hair down?
Hmm, off to battle the Juggernaut? Wait let me find that rubber band of unstable molecules.
Darkseid causing problems? Just one second while I get my scrunchy made from the blankets that came from the rocketship that sent me to Earth.
Holding up a bridge until everyone can get off safely? Oh, there’s my hair clip of admantium.
Here’s my thing. If superheroes were real, they’d ALL be putting their hair up before they rushed off into battle, flew off into the sky, burrowed underneath the Earth’s crust. They have enough time to squeeze into impossibly tight spandex, I can’t believe they wouldn’t grab a hair band at least!
I was trying to think of superheroes who actually DO keep their hair like a real athletic woman would and the only two/three I could think of, were Amazons (or psuedo-Amazons):
Original Wonder Girl (and I think Cassie originally went with a pony tail too once the wig came off) AND
Artemis (Now SHE was a practical warrior woman!)
Hawkgirl (helmet AND wears her hair short or at least used to)
Jesse Quick (but not Liberty Belle, makes sense though for a speedster to tie her hair up)
Kate Spencer, Manhunter (hood AND ponytail)
Cassandra Cain (hood but how rare are those for female heroes?)
I cannot BELIEVE you forgot Dyna Girl!
all, doesn’t Lois look so pretty...picture? Look at
There’s also Renee...‘do. But yeah, major, major pet peeve. :/
Atlee and Peej both have short hair! Which...pretty rare thing in comic book ladies and I...
artist’s standpoint, long...great way to show movement and
